Biography
Shu Liu is the Co-Founder and CAIO of SmartMore, a fast-growing pioneer in industrial AI agents and smart manufacturing, where he leads product and technical R&D while incubating cutting-edge technologies and products.
He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2018, under the supervision of Prof. Jiaya Jia. Prior to that, he obtained his B.Eng. degree in Software Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in 2014. He also spent a wonderful period at Tencent Youtu Lab.
His research focuses on computer vision, large multimodal models, and embodied AI. He has published over 60 papers in top-tier journals and conferences (including TPAMI, CVPR, and NeurIPS) with over 30,000 citations. He was recognized in Fortune China’s "40 Under 40" Most Promising Business Elites List (2025) and nominated as an ICCV Best Paper Finalist (2023). He has been consistently ranked among the World's Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University and Elsevier. Additionally, he holds over 100 authorized patents, has led his teams to 5 world championships in prestigious academic competitions (outperforming leading groups from Meta and MSRA), and has served as the Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI for several major research and technology commercialization projects.
He serves as an expert consultant for the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and a committee member of the National Smart Manufacturing Standardization Expert Advisory Group. He has also driven the formulation of multiple international (ITU) and national AI standards.
